Numbers game: The police

Alison Kira, project manager at Barnet Action 4 Youth, said: "We conducted the survey because we needed to find out whether young people's perceptions of the poor relationships between young people and the police were true. The survey's findings have shown that they are. We now need to tackle the reason for these negative attitudes and start changing them."

Last week, Barnet Action 4 Youth held the first of a series of meetings between young people and police officers in an attempt to improve relations between the two groups.

The survey, which gathered responses from 137 young people and 27 police officers, also found that young people have a negative view of the work of the police.
