The Urban Audit, carried out by the European Union's statistical office, Eurostat, looked at the population of cities in all the countries in the union, as well as Bulgaria and Romania.
The survey found that Cayenne in France had the highest percentage of the population aged under 15 in Europe, with 30.1 per cent. Derry, Birmingham and Bradford had the highest percentage of young people in the UK, with a quarter, 22 per cent and 21.9 per cent respectively. Cambridge was at the bottom, with 13.8 per cent, followed by Exeter with 16.1 per cent.
Derry also had the highest unemployment rate in the UK with 12 per cent, while Cambridge had the lowest with only 3.8 per cent.
