Numbers game: Pupil literacy

1 min read

Scottish 15-year-olds were in the top six of the reading literacy rankings and came fifth in the maths category of the Programme for International Student Assessment, which analyses the performance of pupils from 32 countries.

Peter Peacock, education minister for Scotland, said he was pleased but felt there was room for improvement. "Reading is a key skill to develop," he said. "Scottish young people scored well in international tests, but I want them to do even better."
