Numbers game After-school clubs

The report, Investing in young people, investing in our future: the development of integrated provision for 11- to 16-year-olds, proposes using an integrated approach based on 4Children's Make Space clubs to offer a wide range of youth activities after school (YPN, 14-20 July, p2).

According to the organisation, seven out of 10 parents think young people commit crime because there is nothing for them to do. The report estimates that four million secondary pupils are not provided for after school, and a quarter of these end up hanging around on the streets. It puts the Government figure for tackling youth crime each year at 1.3bn.
