The Investing in Young People report, to which YPN has gained exclusive access, proposes an integrated service for 11- to 16-year-olds, based on 4Children's Make Space clubs, offering a wide range of youth work-type activities after school. The report also estimates that nearly a million young people have nothing to do after school.
Anne Longfield, director of 4Children, said the report's proposals fitted in with the Government's Five Year Strategy for Children and Learners.
"The two fit together very well as the key points in both are integrating services, increasing the variety of what is on offer and increasing the number of places for young people to go," she said. "The 600m is a realistic figure and it's all about political will. Without that money, services will remain disjointed, unco-ordinated and limited."
