Northern Ireland: Youth councils form cross-border tie-up

1 min read
Fermanagh Shadow Youth Council in Northern Ireland is linking up with its neighbour Donegal Youth Council in the Republic of Ireland to encourage the sharing of ideas and knowledge via the web.

The project has been backed by EUR250,000 (175,000) from the EU's Peace II fund and will provide each of the youth councils with their own web site and allow them to share information through an online chatroom until June 2006. Diane Noble, project co-ordinator of Fermanagh Shadow Youth Council, said: "As we are close to the Donegal border, we have worked with its youth council on similar projects. The funding will help young people from both councils to share information and discuss issues. We will set up a youth e-forum chatroom with registration and passwords for young people to access, which will be monitored by staff."

The web sites are expected to launch this spring.
