NORTHERN IRELAND: Project unites work in areas with conflict

1 min read

Delegates came from 10 different countries, including the US, South Africa and Croatia, to the Youth Work in Contested Spaces conference earlier this month, hosted by the Youth Council for Northern Ireland and the University of Ulster.

As a result of the event, which attracted 180 participants, a three-year project will now begin. Also known as Youth Work in Contested Spaces, this is a collaborative effort between the youth council and the university.

It is backed by money from the Peace II strand of the EU's Special Programme for Peace and Reconciliation.

The project will consist of conferences, international exchange visits by youth workers and research. Its ultimate aim is to help youth workers prepare young people "for life in a divided society".
