The board's youth committee met last Wednesday to vote on proposed cuts driven by a budget shortage of nearly half a million pounds for 2006-07 (YPN, 15-21 March, p4).
Young people from St Teresa's youth centre in West Belfast were among the protesters waving placards. Seamus Campbell, senior youth worker at St Teresa's, said: "Thousands of young people will be out on the street if youth club nights close."
Proposals rejected by the youth committee include reducing club hours.
New proposals were made during the meeting to reduce funding to an outdoor education centre in Belfast.
The youth committee's report from the meeting will be sent to the full board, which will vote on the proposals in May.
