The Our Children and Young People - Our pledge: Action plan 2007-2008will form the foundation for how the new Northern Ireland Executive willdeliver the province's 10-year strategy for children and young people, which launched last June.
Organised under six outcomes, including children's rights, the plancontains around 160 actions. These include developing proposals based onthe Care Matters green paper, targeting funding to improve looked-afterchildren's education, and improving early intervention and crisisintervention for children with poor mental health.
Maria Eagle, the minister for children and young people at the NorthernIreland Office, said the plan was a "first for Northern Ireland" thatwould improve cross-government co-ordination.
However, she said the plan, which she described as "transitional", cameahead of the spending review and would be revised in a year by ministerson the Northern Ireland Executive and key statutory and voluntarychildren's groups.
