Positive Playgrounds, launched by PlayBoard, will see a play expertgoing into primary schools and working with playground supervisors,teachers and children.
The expert will look at different types of play and how adults can helpencourage and support these types of play in schools. The project willalso hold practical sessions to learn new games.
The eight-week programme will be piloted in 10 schools from April toDecember. They will also be encouraged to carry out a playground needsassessment and develop a playground policy. Policies should addressissues like the roles and responsibilities of adults in the playground,inclusion, wet playtimes and play materials, explained Angela Stallard,who will co-ordinate and deliver the programme.
