Northern Ireland: Plans for 61m for children's services

The Government has kickstarted the extended schools programme in Northern Ireland with part of a 61m funding package.

Proposals for the two-year Children and Young People's Funding Package,which will also strengthen child protection and early years provision,were unveiled yesterday (7 March).

Pauline Leeson, director of Children in Northern Ireland, welcomed thefunding but questioned how the new fund's outcomes would tie in withthose of the province's delayed children and young people's strategy,which is now expected in May.
