Northern Ireland: Parenting schemes receive 4m boost

Initiatives targeting parents and families in Northern Ireland got a boost last week with the launch of a 4m package of support and a consultation on parenting policy.

Children's minister Maria Eagle said the money would be spent on a rangeof initiatives. These will include increased provision of classes onpositive parenting and anger management, enhanced family mediationservices and a helpline for parents.

The package includes money for families affected by parental drug useand domestic violence.

Eagle also launched a consultation on a new family and parentingstrategy, called Families Matter, which will run until 30 March.
