The replacement for the Jobskills programme, which will be called Training for Success, will be more tailored to helping disadvantaged young people overcome barriers to employment.
Training for Success providers are due to be announced next week. The scheme will introduce two levels of professional and technical Apprenticeship training from September.
Sir Reg Empey, minister for employment and learning, said: "Although many young people will be able to find a route into employment through Apprenticeship provision, it is recognised that others face barriers to learning and work. For this group of young people, a varied range of support will be available to prepare them for work."
