Northern Ireland fund is a success

Education
A 61m pound fund to help develop extended services and joint working in Northern Irish schools is having a positive impact on children's wellbeing.

The Children and Young People Funding Package, launched in March 2006, aims to improve children's school results, health and wellbeing.

An Education and Training Inspectorate and Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety report found the cash had boosted pupil motivation through extended services, helped reform child protection services and increased the availability of counsellors.

However, it added that better collaboration between the agencies and schools involved is needed for continued success.
