North Yorkshire gets green light to continue with play space programme

1 min read Play
North Yorkshire County Council has been given the go-ahead by the government to continue with its programme of creating 18 new play spaces across the region.

In July as part of its national spending review, the Department for Education announced a hold on further expenditure on Playbuilder, a programme initiated by the last government to create 3,500 adventurous play spaces for eight- to 13-year-olds across the country by 2012.

But North Yorkshire has been told that due to its timely and effective approach to the grant process, the county’s full original allocation has been successfully secured – one of only a few councils in the country to achieve this and the only authority in the region.

County councillor Caroline Patmore, executive member for children’s services, said: "It is great news for our county in among other, less pleasing news. North Yorkshire is a large and varied county and we have a great opportunity here to create very different play spaces that reflect the unique qualities of the environment. We hope that generations of children to come will benefit greatly from what we have started here."
