Localism Bill 'fails on play advice'

1 min read Play
The government's Localism Bill does not provide communities and councils with enough guidance on how to deliver new play spaces with limited finances, the Association of Play Industries (API) has warned.

Last week, in response to a question in parliament, children’s minister Sarah Teather confirmed that the government would not provide any funding to develop and improve play spaces after the end of the Playbuilder programme at the end of March.

She said in future government wanted control over local expenditure to "move away from the centre".

But in response Adam Steiner, public development officer at the API, said: "There is a lack of provision and guidance in the Localism Bill as to how communities and local authorities are expected to deliver these new play parks with such limited financial resources. It’s my view that localism does not give the big society sufficient power and autonomy that it deserves."
