Newham academy seeks extra funding

1 min read Health Youth Work
A sports academy for young people run by an Olympic gold medallist is looking for long-term funding now its neighbourhood renewal cash has run out.

The Newham Sports Academy (NSA), run by former athlete Tessa Sanderson, costs £220,000 a year and is supported by the London Borough of Newham. But its £50,000 neighbourhood renewal funding ran out in March and Sanderson is now on the look-out for cash to secure its long-term future.

Sanderson told CYP Now she was confident of finding money to replace the neighbourhood renewal funding.

"Another £50,000 would be brilliant or we could find a major sponsor to come in so I don't have to keep worrying every year," she said.

"We have a young person here who has just qualified for the Commonwealth Games later this year. All these kids have so much talent."
