New Connexions body is imminent

Youth Work
A new membership body to represent Connexions services is to launch on 3 December, CYP Now can reveal.

Two co-chairs have been appointed, but the name of the organisation is yet to be decided.

Steve Hoy, chief executive of Connexions Cheshire and Warrington, and Andrew Simmons, chief executive of Connexions Hertfordshire, will lead the body, which replaces the National Association of Connexions Partners, which closed in March.

Hoy said the body would represent the voice of 13- to 19-year-olds and support the workforce. "There is a need for an organisation to represent staff that are seen as undervalued," he said.

He said the new body would also work closely with the Association of Principal Youth & Community Officers, the Association of Youth Offending Team Managers, the Association of Directors of Children's Services and the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
