NCB: Spotlight

1 min read
My name is Grace Gurbutt, I am 14 and I live in Lincolnshire. I am proud to have been elected as co-chair to the NCB Membership Forum.

I joined Young NCB three years ago as I wanted to be part of an organisation that empowers children and young people and to learn about government policy and children's rights. After all, children and young people experience the long-term effects of policy in their families, schools and health services so I believe they should have a voice in the decisions that affect them. I look forward to my role in helping to co-ordinate young people's views to NCB, its board of trustees and as co-chair to their Membership Forum.

The Membership Forum includes young people and adults to provide a balanced overview. We put forward the views of NCB's membership - including those of Young NCB - to help NCB and its board of trustees by informing their public policy priorities. These influence areas such as public health, using an evidence-based perspective that would be incomplete without the young person's evaluation. For example, how the experience of teenagers in hospital can inform the commissioning of health services to better meet their needs, which is important, especially for patients receiving long-term care.
