The NOP poll, commissioned by the Anti-Bullying Alliance, based at NCB, marks the first national Anti-Bullying Week (22-26 November). Over 50 organisations including children's charities, schools and education authorities, and the Department for Education and Skills are working together to raise awareness of bullying and promote ways to reduce it.
A series of resources, including lesson plans and assembly ideas for schools, guidance on effective approaches to tackling bullying and a guide for parents on bullying and the law, are also being launched this week.
The Anti-Bullying Alliance aims to address young people's own concerns about bullying, such as knowing who they can talk to. "It's better if you tell an adult because an adult can help you," explained one boy in a consultation of five to 13-year-olds carried out by alliance member Young Voice. "If you keep it in your heart they'll carry on hurting you; if you tell an adult they'll stop the bullying."
