NCB Now: SRE on the local agenda

2 mins read
Although it is currently unclear what direction national sex and relationships education policy will take in the future, many local areas are still busy improving how young people are taught about safe and healthy relationships in their schools.

To help develop a strategy to raise the profile of sex and relationships education (SRE) locally, it is useful to start by conducting an audit of SRE provision and supporting schools to review their SRE policies. This is also a good time to map local expertise and resources and find out whether there are partnerships that can help pool resources. Does your local training offer meet needs and can training on SRE be packaged with other topics? In order to get SRE on the local political agenda it is good to identify local champions for SRE and invite engagement with all partners, especially schools governors, parents and young people.
