During the meeting, which was chaired by Baroness Massey of Darwen, theyoung people presented their suggestions on how to encourage greaterrespect and reduce anti-social behaviour.
Their proposals included more youth clubs with extended hours to givethem safe places to go and meet friends. The young people said that theywould benefit from both structured and unstructured activities thatfocused on their interests but also gave them the opportunity to learnabout respect and responsibility.
Other suggestions were workshops for different groups within thecommunity, including parents and young children, to help them develop acommon under-standing about respect. They also thought it would behelpful to have special days to bring the community together tocelebrate diversity and difference.
