NCB Now: Resource on Disability Act is produced

The Council for Disabled Children, based at the National Children's Bureau, has been involved in producing an innovative new resource: Implementing the Disability Discrimination Act in Schools and Early Years Settings.

The resource brings together projects commissioned by the Department forEducation and Skills and the Disability Rights Commission to helpschools and local authorities implement the reasonable adjustments dutyand planning duty.

The resource includes templates for schools and local authorities to usein reviewing their accessibility plans and strategies, a DVD resource onhow schools are making reasonable adjustments for disabled pupils, andguidance for local authorities on increasing access to early yearssettings.

The DVD materials were the brain child of Richard Rieser at DisabilityEquality in Education and show footage of more than 40 schools acrossthe country that have been developing their approach to makingreasonable adjustments for disabled pupils.
