NCB Now: Resource looks at moral dilemmas

1 min read
Young people are regularly confronted with dilemmas such as peer pressure to take drugs and how to handle exam stress. A new NCB resource will help teachers, youth workers and health workers talk to young people about these issues.

The pack of cards comprises 40 scenarios based on the results of theEconomic and Social Research Council's Respect study, which explored themoral values of 11- to 16-year-olds, and real-life situations that youngpeople have told NCB are relevant to them.

Cards for Life is the first resource to relate to the Children Act 2004outcomes for children and the scenarios are grouped in five themes toreflect each outcome.

The cards will guide discussion by helping users think about thefeelings and behaviour of the young people in the scenario, as well astheir own responses.

"The Respect study findings show that young people are actively engagedin a process of emotional and moral development as they grow older. Thispack aims to provide a fresh approach to exploring issues they tell usare important," said NCB's Simon Blake.
