NCB Now: Report on violence against women

1 min read
A new consultation report from NCB, Together We Can End Violence Against Women and Girls, presents the views of young people on violence against women and girls, including relationships education at school, social attitudes and sexual bullying.

The research, commissioned by the Department for Health, found that young people are concerned that they are not being taught about positive and respectful relationships at school. A number of respondents with learning disabilities felt that this was especially true for them, as they were not expected to form personal relationships and were excluded from healthy relationships education.

One young respondent commented: "We live in a violent society and people hardly bat an eyelid when a girl is hit by her boyfriend. Schools should be teaching students and parents because most students learn aggression from their families."

Janine Young, NCB participation co-ordinator, said: "The young women and men were aware of increasing violence against women and girls and gave some good ideas of how it can be prevented."
