Emma Sawyer, who ran the workshop, said: "Research and social servicesinspections have highlighted that while a great deal of information isgathered about families during assessments, it is hard to see how it hasbeen used to make decisions. During the project we introduced practicetools and ideas to assist workers and help make their 'workings out'more transparent." The workshop was well attended and feedback fromdelegates suggested this is an area where practitioners would welcomesupport.
"I was impressed by the project, such in-depth work with teams over along period," commented Richard Cotmore, senior evaluation officer atthe NSPCC. "We looked at hypothesising, which is one of the tools thathas been developed, and prompted discussion. The handbook should also bevery useful." - A publication detailing the project and practice toolswill be available in the autumn.
