The project, which began last summer, is gathering a wide range of materials, including assessment checklists, questionnaires, decision-making protocols and other tools to help practitioners develop their professional judgment.
"Practitioners tend to rely on practice experience when making difficult judgments, such as assessing a family where a parent has mental health problems or deciding where might be the best place for a child to live," said Ruth Dalzell from NCB's Social Inclusion Department, who is managing the project.
"We believe that this project will help practitioners understand the theory of decision-making and ensure they have considered all options in complex situations.
"It will also help improve practitioners' confidence in justifying their decisions." NCB will shortly begin the search for a senior development officer - ideally a trainer or researcher with practice experience - to lead the analytical skills project.
