NCB Now: Postcards help bereaved children

The Childhood Bereavement Network, based at NCB, has produced a set of four postcards for children and young people who have lost someone special.

Each card includes statements which children can tick before giving the card to their teacher, their parent or carer, or their friends. The statements outline things which others can do to help children and young people manage their loss, like "Ask me how I am feeling. It may not be obvious" or "Give me a break if I'm acting a bit strangely."

There is also a card to remind the child or young person of ways of helping themselves, such as "Laugh and have fun without feeling guilty. This does not mean I am 'over it', have 'forgotten', or 'couldn't care'".

- A pack of 100 I can ... you can ... postcards (containing 25 of each card) is available from the Childhood Bereavement Network on 020 7843 6309 or cbn@ncb.org.uk, price: 8 (6 for NCB/CBN members) + 3p&p.
