1 min read
The Council for Disabled Children, which is based at NCB, held a conference on Tuesday, 21 March at Lancaster House, Westminster to celebrate the success of the two-year pathfinder children's trusts programme and to launch a new guide, Pathways to Success.

Pathfinder children's trusts have been running since summer 2003, withtheir model for the delivery of local services at the heart of keylegislation and policy for children and young people. Working within theEvery Child Matters agenda, the trusts have been at the forefront of thedevelopment of duties set out in the Children Act 2004.

"Each of the pathfinder trust areas developed their own style inapproaching challenges to disabled children's services", explained HelenWheatley, principal officer at the Council for Disabled Children.

Pathways to Success, written by Helen Wheatley, builds on lessonslearned from the trusts, and looks at how support and services can beimproved for disabled children. It will be useful for staff responsiblefor commissioning and delivering services across health, education'social care and the voluntary sectors. Funded by the Department forEducation and Skills and the Department of Health, the guide isfree.
