As part of the programme of work, NPF has released a strategic vision of national participation, which outlines the case for involving children and young people in decision-making and highlights the key benefits and challenges.
Recently, NPF launched the results of its latest survey revealing the views of over 280 frontline participation workers. Mandy Douglas, assistant director for participation at NCB, said: "Part of the survey asked respondents about the barriers they felt were critical in preventing the meaningful participation of children and young people. Seventy-six per cent felt that negative public attitudes were a barrier, while 52 per cent of participation workers felt that the lack of parental support was a barrier with 59 per cent reporting a lack of incentive for staff to promote children and young people's participation. The findings reveal some startling results but a very positive way of moving forward."
