NCB Now: No decision about us without us

1 min read
The publication in July 2010 of the NHS white paper Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS was met with a flurry of commentary and interest within the sector, as well as controversy about a number of the proposals contained within it. This debate still show no signs of abating.

At the time of writing, The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) is the latest professional body to question the paper's proposals. Under headings such as "too much, too soon, and too little evidence" and "lack of detail in the proposals", the RCN questions the "timescales which are highly ambitious and fail to provide appropriate risk management mechanisms", criticises plans to give commissioning powers to one single profession (GPs) and asserts that "there is little evidence that the proposals will work in the UK context".

Following consultation with voluntary organisations and other partner organisations and bodies, NCB has submitted a response to the white paper.
