NCB Now: News from Scotland - Early years care and education

In the run-up to the Scottish Parliament elections, Children in Scotland is concerned the main parties have not laid out sufficient manifesto plans for early years provision for young people.

While there is talk of giving parents and children an entitlement toservices, putting trained teachers in every nursery class, and extendingthe free nursery provision so that it's at least a little less limited, many childcare experts feel the proposals do not go far enough.

Considering a Unicef report ranked the UK bottom on child welfare out of21 industrialised countries in February, it is worrying that early yearscare and education are not at the top of the election agenda.
