NCB Now: New publications from Play England

1 min read
Play England launched two major publications at its first annual members' meeting on 13 November in London.

Members were the first to see the completely updated Quality in Play manual, as well as plans for the national rollout of the quality assurance scheme to help out-of-school play and childcare provision ensure quality play opportunities for children are available.

In addition, authors Wendy Russell and Stuart Lester launched their much-anticipated book Play for a Change, a comprehensive and informative look at contemporary perspectives on the importance of children's play and how this relates to social policy and practice. The publication outlines substantial evidence that supports the importance of play in children's lives.

Throughout the day, delegates heard from a range of speakers about Play England's activities, including work to support the government's Fair Play programme. Richard Vaughan, head of the child wellbeing unit at the Department for Children, Schools and Families, also gave a keynote address to update members on its £235m national play strategy.
