The charter - setting out a vision for play - will act as a catalyst to examine, review and improve planning, services and activities to meet young people's play needs.
The revamped charter has eight core statements, including children's right to play freely in their neighbourhoods.
It also highlights the benefits of staffed provision, the need for skilled playworkers and the special attention that is required to ensure good play opportunities for children in difficult circumstances, such as hospitals or those in residential care.
AGM keynote speaker, Sir Al Aynsley-Green, Children's Commissioner for England said: "The Charter for Children's Play has my unreserved support. Play is a means by which even very young children learn and understand the world about them. For far too long, the adult-centric view of children's play has been to dismiss it as irrelevant.
