NCB Now: New leaflets to help tackle truanting

1 min read
NCB has produced a series of comic-book-style leaflets aimed at helping children and young people think and talk about truancy.

The leaflets were commissioned by the Department for Education and Skills as part of its drive to tackle the problem. The content and style were developed during extensive consultation with children and young people who had themselves experienced problems with school attendance.

Two leaflets aimed at secondary school students look at bullying and boredom as reasons for truancy, using comic storylines to explain that truanting is not a solution. A third leaflet for primary school children encourages them to think about what might happen when they miss school. They are designed to be used either as tools in the classroom or for children to look at by themselves.
