NCB Now: Help on Education Supervision Orders

NCB has developed free training materials to complement practice guidance for Education Supervision Orders (ESOs). The guidance was published following an action learning project with 13 local authorities, funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation.

"ESOs complement the Every Child Matters agenda by providing a child-centred multi-agency response to poor school attendance," said Jacqui Newvell, principal officer for vulnerable children and families at NCB. "However, even though local authorities have a legal duty to consider them, their use has declined and many practitioners have little experience of applying for and supervising ESOs. These materials can be adapted to suit local needs or training in local authorities."
