NCB Now: NCB guide to better prosecution practice

1 min read
NCB has produced an electronic guide to improving practice on the prosecution of parents for their child's poor attendance at school.

Aimed at supporting local education authorities, Prosecutions for non-attendance at school: A guide for improving practice by Jacqui Newvell and Graham Webb, is designed to bring together policy and practice issues from around the country.

The document follows extensive research by the National Foundation for Education Research (NFER)into the effectiveness of prosecuting parents as a strategy to combat poor attendance.

"NFER's research revealed that excellent and innovative practice is being carried out in many areas," said Jacqui Newvell, head of NCB's Pupil Inclusion Unit. "However, it also highlighted worrying variations in local practice.

"We hope that this guide will support LEAs in providing a more consistent and robust service."
