NCB Now: NCB puts spotlight on transition

Children face a variety of transitions on the journey from childhood to adulthood and independence. These changes may be expected and planned for, such as the move to secondary school, or unexpected, such as a bereavement.

The sixth issue of Spotlight - the termly newsletter produced by NCB -features examples of practice where specific work has taken place tosupport children through transitions.

"Building children's emotional resilience and skills to managetransition is vital to enable them to cope with life's changes," saidHelen Chambers, national lead officer for the Healthy Care Programmebased at NCB.

The newsletter reports on Getting a Life, a project run by the NCB-basedCouncil for Disabled Children, to raise awareness of the issues faced bydisabled children as they reach adulthood. An article by Anna Martinez,co-ordinator of the Sex Education Forum, explains how sex andrelationships education can provide learning and skills throughadolescence.
