The fifth issue of Spotlight, the termly newsletter produced by NCB, looks at how to tackle this issue by promoting healthy lifestyles.
"Behind the sometimes hysterical media headlines is a serious issue - the need to support young people and their families in making healthy choices," said Joanne Butcher, principal officer, children's health and wellbeing, and guest editor of this issue of Spotlight.
"Concern about health trends has led to the development of policy and initiatives. The range of articles in this issue of Spotlight demonstrates the exciting practice developing."
The newsletter reports on a "health challenge" pilot, which NCB ran with a group of young people, exploring barriers they faced in trying to live a healthy life. In addition, an article by Sue Campbell, chief executive of the Youth Sports Trust, emphasises the need to make school sport more fun and accessible. Readers are also provided with the Spotlight briefing, which contains an overview of principles for promoting healthy lifestyles.
