NCB Now: NCB event boosts effective planning

Nearly 80 professionals had the opportunity to check progress and gain new ideas on implementing the Every Child Matters agenda at the latest meeting of the successful Planning for Children Network, organised by NCB on 21 February in London.

Topics included the cross-sectoral inspection system that came intoeffect in September 2005. Flo Hadley, head of the children's inspectiondivision at Ofsted, spoke on children's services inspection, whileJacqui McShannon from the London Borough of Hounslow talked about theirexperience of the joint area review.

Also debated was children and young people's plans, with a presentationfrom Andrew Baxter from the Department for Education and Skills, andAdrian Loades, director of planning and development for children andyoung people's services in Cambridgeshire. Following measures introducedin the Children Act 2004, all local authorities must have a children andyoung people's plan in place by April 2006.

There was also a presentation from Andrew Rasch, Department forEducation and Skills, on the green paper Youth Matters.
