Action for Children celebrates 140th birthday.

Action for Children was founded 140 years ago on the principles of passion, equality and hope to support the UK's most vulnerable children and young people. In 1869, Methodist minister Reverend Thomas Bowman Stephenson opened the doors to Action for Children's first children's home, motivated by his concern at the living conditions of children in London and his determination to provide a safe, caring environment for children and young people.

As the charity looks back and celebrates its 140th birthday, it's clear that Stephenson's vision and values remain the golden thread that runs through all of Action for Children's work, which includes supporting children and young people who are disabled, in care, young carers or supporting families. Action for Children works to transform the lives of vulnerable children and young people and, in recognition that there's no such thing as a quick fix, commits to being there for as long as it takes.
