A manifesto for children in care to challenge politicians

With a general election imminent, fostering and adoption charity, The Adolescent and Children's Trust (Tact) is issuing a challenge to politicians. In its publication Manifesto for Children in Care 2010, Tact sets out reforms of the care system that should be priority for the incoming government. The manifesto was prepared in consultation with social workers, foster carers, adopters and young people in the care system.

The manifesto calls for a series of measures including improved participation in decision making; better advocacy; effective mental health services; stability in foster placements; better educational support; improved family reunification processes; recognition of the educational needs of adopted children; improved post-adoption support services; and recognition of the needs of looked-after children in the criminal justice system.
