"There are now three Buddies groups supporting more than 50 youngpeople. The scheme works extremely well as Buddies are able to enjoyactivities with their own friends.
"Activities are planned in advance between Buddies and their volunteerswith on-hand support provided by the scheme's co-ordinator. Buddies aregiven the opportunity to take part in group-based activities to ensurestrength in numbers, with one-to-one home visits available for youngpeople with more severe disabilities.
"The aim of the scheme is to ensure that Buddies gain socialindependence and parents receive valuable respite time."
