There's a general misconception that "clever" children will do okay in school, but many gifted and talented children underachieve. Some may become disruptive or give up on school altogether. Their needs are often misunderstood or misdiagnosed.
The Every Child Matters: Change for Children programme is focused on giving every child the support they require, whatever their needs, abilities, background or circumstances. Nevertheless, the learning experience for some children may not be appropriate to their complex needs, and their gifts and talents may not be accepted and understood by their peers.
Every child has a gift or talent they can celebrate and NAGC would like all children to realise that it is alright to be bright - whether that's at things like football or academic subjects. The "It's Alright to be Bright!" campaign day will be on Friday 9 May.
