1 min read
Vicky Escot from London took part in Life Routes last year. Here the 18-year-old tells NCB how it helped her: "I got involved with Life Routes after starting college and meeting Nik, the Life Routes co-ordinator for London. I chose to do it because I didn't have any GCSEs and it gave me a concrete goal to work towards - an award (accredited by Asdan).

"I worked with three others on a schools healthy eating programme, which we presented at a conference full of head teachers. It felt good to work on something that would benefit other children. "My biggest achievement was working towards the goals and reaching them. Before this I used to exclude myself from things. This taught me to get involved and learn to communicate better.

"The programme also taught me to listen to other team members and understand where they were coming from. As we learned to work with each other and take on board each other's views, it became more enjoyable. One idea led to another and each idea made our project better and better.
