ECF aims to bring together partners in the early childhood sector to debate issues, celebrate differences and develop consensus to champion quality experiences for all young children from birth to eight and their families.
We promote inclusion and challenge inequality by first understanding, and then trying to break down the barriers to participation and belonging. We have 53 members as well as observers from government departments.
- How did you become involved with early years?
When my children attended their local playgroup, I became a member and then chair of its management committee. Later I joined the under-fives group in Haringey where Gillian Pugh, now chair of NCB's board of management, and I set up an under-sevens working party. Our report to Haringey resulted in a council under-eights committee being formed, an early years' section of the council, and a booklet for families about facilities available for under-fives in the borough.
