NCB Now: How NCB is tackling youth unemployment

1 min read
Numbers of young people not in education, employment or training (Neet) are worryingly high, and as youth unemployment is an issue of great concern and is likely to continue to be for a while, we must find ways to help young people to finish their education and find a career that makes the most of their skills and talents.

At NCB, we were particularly pleased to be successful in our bid to the Future Jobs Fund, which will give young people an opportunity to gain experience in areas such as finance administration, marketing and HR within the voluntary sector.

March marked the beginning of NCB's Skills Development Programme, an exciting new initiative supporting community and voluntary sector organisations to employ and develop skills of young people who are Neet, with the appointment of the first five apprentices.

This unique programme is designed to improve the diversity of the workforce within the community and voluntary sector, and engage young people in their local communities. Through on the job learning opportunities, previously unemployed young people aged between 18 and 24 are gaining valuable skills and experience in job roles lasting for five months, working 25 hours per week.
