NCB is concerned that a new generation is growing up with little awareness of HIV/AIDS, and believes that this lack of knowledge among young people is potentially dangerous.
To support schools, NCB and the Sex Education Forum have launched Teaching and Learning About HIV: A Resource Pack for Primary and Secondary Schools. The pack, commissioned by the Department for Education and Skills, includes a range of lesson activities as well as advice on how to discuss HIV/AIDS with students.
'We need to do more to help children, young people and their families realise the importance of HIV - and we must ensure that teachers have the confidence to address the issue in schools,' said Simon Blake, Assistant Director of Children's Development at NCB. 'We hope this resource pack gives them the support they need to work with children across the curriculum.'
