The Department for Work and Pensions has published the findings from qualitative research on lone parents' attitudes towards, and experiences of, childcare.

The report looks at parents' decisions about childcare and work as well as their views of recent and imminent policy changes.

As part of a large scale survey to inform the Managing Challenging Behaviour report Ofsted has commissioned a literature review on young people who show challenging behaviour. The review includes details on the definition and prevalence of challenging behaviour.

FACTS AND FIGURES ON ... BIRTHS IN ENGLAND AND WALES

There were 621,469 live births in England and Wales in 2003. The average age of women giving birth for the first time was 27.4 and the proportion of births outside marriage was 41.4 per cent, 29 per cent more than in 1993.
