Facts and Figures on ... looked-after children

61,100 children were looked after at 31 March 2004, one per cent more than a year earlier. While the number of looked-after children has been rising over the last five years the rate of increase has slowed.

Mentoring and problem behaviour

Evaluation of one-to-one mentoring programmes has reported positive experiences by the young people who remain in a scheme, but more research is needed into why so many relationships are terminated prematurely.
